Maren A. – Reflection on Taipei Cuisine

Note (by Alex) – One of the reasons why I do international trips is to witness students have new experiences, ones that are almost impossible to come by stateside. To break free of one’s comfort zone and not only enjoy, but celebrate cuisine from a culture that is not one’s own is a delightful side effect of this trip. To witness Maren embody this boldness and dive right into the cuisine of Taipei is only partially conveyed in this blog post reflection. Please enjoy this photo essay!

Mango Shaved Ice (Mango served 4 ways…. over shaved ice!)
Vending Machine Teas and Juices – So yummy and super easy to purchase with our EZ cards
Claire and I sharing some pork noodle soup in Tamsui. It was delicious and (for $4.68) SUPER CHEAP!
Fan Tuan, or Sticky Rice Rolls was a snack provided by our awesome guide, Patrick. He made it himself and it was so yummy!
Breakfast bao and warm soy milk – so delicious!
Lastly a banquet meal off the coast of Taiwan:
Course 1: White bread with Crab paste spread
Course 2: Chilled Beef cooked Medium Rare
Course 3: Chilled Spring Chicken
Course 4: Clams in a black bean sauce
Course 5: Calamari deep fried with shrimp chips
Course 6: Ham and Egg fried rice
Course 7: Wintermelon Soup with Fish
Course 8: Spot Prawns
Course 9: Shredded Chicken over Wheat Noodles
